I’m back! I know, it’s been a little bit. I’ve been doing other random things with life.
Anyway, without further ado, here is my list of crazy TikTok viral rings that I’ve been seeing.
1. This is Lily Collins wearing a rose cut diamond ring. This one and the other celebrity that got the portrait cut diamond I have to just wonder: why? I understand that they wanted to be unique but there are a million ways to be unique without getting an absolutely flat, dull, lifeless stone that has no sparkle. I don’t really understand this. But I guess they were trying to set a trend. “Stop trying to make fetch happen – it’s not going to happen!”
2. Katerina something’s ring that she designed using her original engagement ring. First of all: why did you take apart a perfectly good standard classic oval solitaire to make this? I get that she wanted to be different but I don’t really love the idea of discarding your original engagement ring that your man got you. That aside, I think it is a beautiful work of art. It’s absolutely gigantic, though. It isn’t my style but it is a cool artsy piece. Certainly her engagement ring will without a doubt be the biggest piece of jewelry she will wear at any given time.
3. The TikTok viral ring pop ring. This lady always joked with her fiancé that she wanted to be engaged with a ring pop, and I guess he made it happen. She really liked the design, I guess. It’s a beautiful sapphire stone, honestly, but the ring design is very… well. I hate to knock it, but I don’t think it’s exactly elegant or demure or understated. It certainly is a one-of-a-kind unique ring, which is probably what she was going for. But I would probably be more inclined to say, “does baby want a pacifier?” more than “wow, what a stunning ring!”
4. The satellite dish / can opener viral ring on TikTok. This one is actually from some estate sale find. It’s a French 1950s vintage ring that was really meant to be more of a cocktail ring than an engagement ring. That didn’t stop Abby what’s-er-face from buying it and falling in love with it somehow as her forever engagement ring. You know, she was roasted pretty badly online for her choice but there are worse choices honestly. It does sparkle, it has vintage natural diamonds, and it is certainly one-of-a-kind something that nobody else is going to have on their finger for the rest of their life. I would honestly see my gaudy jewelry loving Auntie from Tennessee toting this around on her hand. It does look more southern and loud than antique and French.
5. The TikTok screen protector ring. I think this is the ugliest most awfully designed engagement ring I’ve ever seen. This “geologist” lady took the liberty to design her own engagement ring using a lab-created portrait cut diamond as the top layer stone, and then worked with some jeweler to design the bottom backing gold plate with some more (probably) lab sapphires. I hate everything about this, girl. I know that she did this to be super unique and loves rocks or something (so she said). Give me a break. She was talking in her videos about how she likes how textured the backing plate is but someone in the comments made the remark that it looks more like a memorial ring for dead parents than an engagement ring. Not to mention the design of it irks me. I prefer symmetry and clean lines so the overhang of the sapphires underneath the portrait cut diamond bothers me really bad. And gunk will be difficult to clean out of the back of it. My closing remark: I just don’t understand this ring. What is the purpose of the portrait cut diamond? Why magenta sapphires? Why do they overhang? Why is this your dream ring? What inspired you to do this?
I don’t know – maybe some of these rings are “ahead of their time” or simply just outliers in a sea of solitaires. I think it’s sometimes nice to see variety in how people choose their rings. What do you think? Were any of these your favorite?
